Case Spotlight: Putting Our Approach into Practice
Applying Lean Thinking to Real-World Education Challenges
Over a six-month collaboration, Berka Solutions partnered with St. Patrick’s Comprehensive School, the Mid-West Lean Network, Shannon Chamber and industry leaders to support students in solving a real operational challenge within their school canteen.
Through structured workshops based on the DMAIC framework, students were guided to define and analyse the problem, identify root causes, and develop practical improvement solutions.
The journey included hands‑on learning, industry site visits, and a final showcase event hosted by Zimmer Biomet, organised in partnership with Shannon Chamber and the Mid‑West Lean Network (MWLN), where students presented their insights and learning.
This initiative reflects how Lean thinking can be applied beyond industry, empowering students with real-world problem-solving skills.
We continue to explore opportunities to bring Lean thinking into education and community settings, building capability where it matters most
